Joint chess meeting of CCI and CiF

In recent years, the annual CCI meetings could no longer take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. There won’t be one in 2023 either due to a lack of participation. However, a possible solution is now emerging for 2024. CiF has also suffered from coronavirus and a simultaneous decline in member participation. In May 2023, for example, only around 20 chess fans (including partners) were still taking part.

Consequently, the idea of a joint meeting of CCI and CiF members was discussed.

At the request of the CiF board, Margret and Hans-Peter Tödter agreed to organize such a meeting. This is to take place in Buxtehude from October 10 to 13, 2024.

Initial explorations with a suitable hotel appear promising. In order to be able to guarantee the current prices for accommodation plus breakfast, the hotel needs a quick reservation.

So if you would like to attend the joint meeting in Buxtehude, please contact us in writing by October 31 at the latest:
Hans-Peter Tödter, Dammhauser Str. 19a, 21614 Buxtehude, email mmhp.toedter@freenet.de

About the hotel prices: Overnight stay plus breakfast in a double room 130€, in a single room 95€.

The program of the meeting is not yet fixed, but could look something like this:

Thursday, 10.10.24: Arrival

Friday, 11.10.24: Drive to Hamburg

Saturday, 12.10.24: Sightseeing tour of Buxtehude

Sunday, 13.10.24: Departure after breakfast

We want to spend the three evenings together if possible.

The meeting would not only be an opportunity to see old (and new) correspondence chess friends, but also to learn something about Buxtehude. The town has a rich past, including the Hanseatic period. It is known as a fairytale town thanks to the Brothers Grimm about the race between the hare and the hedgehog. What is perhaps less well known is that in Buxtehude the dogs bark with their tails. But we will certainly find out how they do it.
